CRD presented in a National Seminar at CIRDAP

On 27 August 2026, ALRD convened a national seminar at the A T M Shamsul Haque Auditorium in CIRDAP, Dhaka, where CRDunveiled research from five districts laying bare a sobering truth: women are systematically erased from land records, entangled in false legal suits and coercive evictions, and subjected to physical, psychological, and economic violence with virtually no recourse to justice. Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir situated land rights within the broader framework of dignity and equality- echoing the founding principles of the Liberation War- emphasized that clear documentation, deeds, and receipts are essential to averting disputes, and outlined the government's commitment to universal, lifecycle-based social protection, including separate family cards tailored to women at each stage of life. The panel, which brought together Advisor to the Chakma Circle Chief Ms. Rani Yen Yen, poet and journalist Mr. Sohrab Hasan, former Women's Affairs Reform Commission member Ms. Nirupa Dewan, ALRD Executive Director Mr. Shamsul Huda, Naripokkho founding member Ms. Shireen Parveen Huq, and ALRD Chairperson Ms. Khushi Kabir, amplified these concerns with further revelations: forced marriage is increasingly weaponized as a land-grabbing device, inheritance laws persist in granting women only half their brothers' share, women constitute the majority of the agricultural workforce yet remain unrecognized as farmers, hill tract land rights continue to erode despite repeated court interventions, and scores of Women's Reform Commission recommendations—including the repeal of rules privileging households with able-bodied sons—remain stalled.
