Conducting studies and benchmark surveys to assess the cost of living for farmers and their families

CRD has been assigned with the task of “Conducting studies and benchmark surveys to assess the cost of living for farmers and their families”, research commissioned by British American Tobacco (BAT) Bangladesh. It aims to provide critical insights into the economic well-being and living standard of farming communities. The study's objectives include determining accurate cost-of-living estimates and establishing living wage benchmarks, segmented by crop type and farm labor roles. Additionally, it will assess the economic challenges faced by farmers, focusing on ensuring fair compensation and access to essential services. The study will also identify valuable lessons learned and offer actionable recommendations to inform future program designs, aimed at improving the sustainability of livelihoods within farming communities.
To achieve the project goals, CRD will use a mixed-method approach combining quantitative and qualitative research, guided by the Anker Methodology and Cost of a Recommended Diet (CoRD). Data will be collected through field interviews and surveys, along with secondary sources such as government reports, relevant studies, NGOs, and BAT Bangladesh. The study will provide a clear, region-specific picture of farmers’ living costs and offer practical insights to support sustainable livelihood improvements. It will be led by CRD’s experienced team of in-house experts.
