Technical Assistance for Primary Actors Selection (PAS) for Oporajita Project
Oporajita is a 24-month project taken by iDE to equip women garment workers in Bangladesh for a future defined by automation and digitalization. Funded by the H&M Foundation and Sweden, the project aims to holistically address challenges to women’s future employment opportunities and livelihoods in the ready-made garment (RMG) industry, which is facing uncertainty due to the loss of preferential trading access and shifts in production patterns causing the COVID-19 pandemic. The project aims to improve the entrepreneurial capacity of 1,500 out of work women garment workers and increase their household incomes by 50% by 2024 in various regions of the Dhaka division. The project will be implemented in Gazipur, Savar, and Narayanganj districts and will benefit a total of 6,000 people through the increased income of 1,500 women RMG workers.
Under single contract, CRD has been assigned to carry out (i) Rapid Market Assessment (RMA), (ii) Baseline Study and (iii) to provide technical Assistance for primary actors’ selection (PAS). The first two assignments have been completed by April 2023. CRD team has been working with iDE team to identify primary actors in the selected project areas - namely Savar, Gazipur , Narayanganj and Gaibandha (if required). Under this contract, CRD will continue this technical assistance to iDE till 28 February 2024.
CRD (led by Dr. Md Mokhlesur Rahman, lead consultant & CEO of CRD) has been awarded the assignment. The objective of this assignment is to assess market systems, select actors, and gather information to improve income and employment for women garment workers in Bangladesh. Throughout the assignment, CRD will apply Human Centered Design (HCD) principles to evaluate market system potential.
