Baseline Study of Oporajita Project
Oporajita is a 24-month project is being implemented by iDE to equip women garment workers in Bangladesh for a future defined by automation and digitalization. Funded by the H&M Foundation and Sweden, the project aims to holistically address challenges to women’s future employment opportunities and livelihoods in the ready-made garment (RMG) industry, which is facing uncertainty due to the loss of preferential trading access and shifts in production patterns causing the COVID-19 pandemic. The project aims to improve the entrepreneurial capacity of 1,500 out of work women garment workers and increase their household incomes by 50% by 2024 in various regions of the Dhaka division. The project is being implemented in Gazipur, Savar (of Dhaka) and Narayanganj districts and will benefit a total of 6,000 people.
To generate data on present status and challenges of the project beneficiary, a baseline study has been planned to be conducted. CRD has been awarded to conduct the assignment. The objective of the study is to collect and analyze the information of the existing situation of the project’s primary actors, service providers, and/or related stakeholders in terms of their income and employment status, sustainability and resilience, independent business decision capacity, access to financial services, knowledge of basic ICT and e-commerce, and expansion scope of markets in terms of employment creation. Dr. Mokhlesur Rahman will lead the assignment and he will be supported by Marker Development Specialist ( Mr. Shaibal Barua), M&E Specialist ( Mr. Abdus Salam) and Researcher ( Mr. Saleh Khan).
